Community Involvement

Garry and Donna Burry believe strongly in giving back to the community in which they live and work.  They are advocates for family, including the unborn, and community.

Garry enjoys volunteering for local and national organizations and charities.  He has a strong connection with Habitat for Humanity, having worked with the New Orleans chapter to help raise over $95,000 for the rebuilding of homes in the storm devastated area.

Although the Garry and Donna support many organizations in and around Louisville, they are most fond of The Nativity Academy School which opened in 2003 and caters to at-need children. Garry has spearheaded donor cultivation, and has a thoughtful manner and excellent insight into complex problems. His calmness and sincerity has been a huge asset to the school. Garry sits on the development committee of the school. "I enjoy the work that I do there, because it has a direct positive impact on the kids who need it most.  At Nativity, WE GIVE KIDS A HAND UP, NOT A HAND OUT."

Garry and Donna use a donor advised fund with the Louisville Community Foundation as a way to endow charitable stewardship long after they "give up the ghost". Actually at Garry and Donna's death the annual giving from their fund will be continued by their daughters Stephanie 18 and Alison 16 (who currently roll their eyes at the thought). Hopefully they learn that you can only buy so much stuff for yourself but that you can't do to much good.

Garry and Donna's two daughters Stephanie (Senior) and Alison (Sophomore) attend Assumption High School in Louisville, Kentucky. The girls have excelled in their studies and are active in field hockey and dance team respectively. Garry and Donna both work on different committees in an effort to advance the values and teachings that Assumption stands for.
Since December 2009, Garry has been a member of the Assumption High School Advancement Committee.
