Community Involvement

Garry and Donna Burry believe in giving back to the community in which they live and work.  They are advocates for family including the unborn.

Garry enjoys volunteering for with Habitat for Humanity, having worked with the New Orleans chapter to help raise over $95,000 for the rebuilding of homes in the storm devastated area.

Garry and Donna use a donor advised fund with the Louisville Community Foundation as a way to endow charitable stewardship long after they "give up the ghost". Actually at Garry and Donna's death the annual giving from their fund will be continued to be distributed by their daughters Stephanie 18 and Alison 16 (who don't yet fully understand or appreciate the impact that they will someday have and the ability to positively change people's lives).

Garry and Donna support The Nativity Academy School which opened in 2003 and caters to at-need children. Garry has spearheaded donor cultivation, and has a thoughtful manner and excellent insight into complex problems. His calmness and sincerity has been a huge asset to the school. Garry sits on the development committee of the school. "I enjoy the work that I do there, because it has a direct positive impact on the kids who need it most.  At Nativity, WE GIVE KIDS A HAND UP, NOT A HAND OUT."

On February 24th, 2010 Garry attended Career Day at Nativity Academy talking to the students about the possibility of entering into an internship with the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.
