Meet the WHAS Crusade for Children Endowment Board

Garry was elected on March 23, 2017 to a 1 year term as Chairman of the Crusade for Children Endowment Board. His term completed on April 1st, 2018.

Little did Garry know that when he was 19 years old, volunteering as a fireman for the Buechel Fire Department, that some 41 years later he would be asked to help on the endowment board, planned giving committee for the Crusade for Children Endowment. It's also ironic that when Garry was 28 years old, he set up a whole life insurance policy owned by and payable to the Crusade for Children. This is a way that donors can commit to a larger future gift by paying much smaller amounts each year. Garry brings his expertise of some 23,000 appointments over 34 years to the Crusade in hopes of increasing the endowment for at-need children in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

Northwestern Mutual Community Service Award

WHAS Crusade for Children

I’m passionate about making a difference in the lives of others, which is one reason I’ve spent 41 years volunteering with WHAS Crusade for Children. This year, I was awarded a Northwestern Mutual 2017 Community Service Award for the time I’ve dedicated to this organization, and presented them with a $20,000 grant in my name as part of my award.

Political Advocacy

Garry met with Senator Rand Paul on March 12, 2016 to review NAIFA priorities, including the new fiduciary guidelines and tax-deferred status of cash value life insurance.

Local Advisor Visits Federal Lawmakers on Capitol Hill

Discusses middle market access to financial advice and service

Garry Burry joined hundreds of other professional insurance agents, advisors, brokers, consultants and employee benefit specialists from across the country in Washington, D.C. on May 25 to meet with U.S. Senate and U.S. House members and their staff as part of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors’s Annual Congressional Conference.

Burry, a local Estate and Business Planning Advisor with Northwestern Mutual, is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the nation’s oldest and largest insurance and financial services association, which sponsored the event.

Burry joined NAIFA leaders, including Government Relations Chairs; State Association Presidents and Executives; NAIFA President Jules O. Gaudreau, Jr.; NAIFA President-Elect Paul R. Dougherty and members of NAIFA's Board of Trustees for the event.

Congressional Conference attendees talked with their members of Congress about the importance of life insurance, annuities, retirement savings, and employee benefits for their clients and the U.S. economy.

“I met with Congressman Thomas Massie and Brett Guthrie and Senator Rand Paul. Senator Mitch McConnell was on the floor during my scheduled visit, but I met with three of his staff” said Burry. “It's vital to let our Representatives and Senators know how important the insurance and financial services are that we provide to our clients, who are their constituents. We work with our community’s families and businesses every day to plan for the future, save for retirement, and protect against financial risks.”

Kosair Childrens Hospital's Brave Hearts

The Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony took place Friday, June 26th at The Brown Theatre in Louisville. The Ceremony included the presentation of the 9th annual Blanton Collier Award to the current University of Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban. All proceeds of the event benefited Kosair Children's Hospital's Congenital Heart Center & Brave Hearts, a group of families who have joined forces to make a difference for those with children diagnosed with a congenital heart condition. The Induction Ceremony and fundraising event was presented by Northwestern Mutual’s Garry Burry.
